Day 2 - Effects of Atomic Bombing ... ...

Authentic lesson on the effects of the Nagasaki bombing back in 9th August 1945 came alive for the Riverlites today as they embarking on a journey to retrace that faithful day.



The boys started the day with folding and keeping their futons and blankets from the night before in the Youth Hostel.



Here's a picture of the girls dorm and this year, the girls missed the opportunity of sleeping on the tatami and instead they had bunk beds.



Breakfast time and just take a look at the spread! What a great way to start the day, right?



The Riverlites first stop of the day was the Nagai Museum where the Ritiverlites learning about this great doctor and Scientist who gave his life to the research on radiation and its effect on human beings.



To encourage and recognise the Japaneses' valiant and and perseverance, Riverlites seen here with Mr Mah offering peace cranes that symbolises hope and peace.



At the Peace Memorial Park, the Riverlites observed a minute silence to remember the victims of the atomic bombing.




The timing the day the atomic bomb dropped on Nagasaki which took away tens and thousands of lives and living generations of victims who is still suffering from the effects of the radiation.


SNA and Rivervale both contributed a bunch of peace crane in the Atomic Bombing Museum and both principals, Mr Mah and Mr Yeo witnessed the presentation.


The Riverlites then walked along a shop street and headed for lunch before the next part of the programme. 


The Riverlites met up with the high school students who are creating awareness of the abolition of nuclear weapon and the Riverlites signed on the petition which will be presented to the United Nations in the United States of America.



The Riverlites board the Ferry in the evening at around 730p.m. and settled down for dinner just minutes after the Ferry set off. They are also treated to the famous Castella cakes of Nagasaki for supper just before bedtime. Sorry parents for introducing supper but this is a definitive food that one must try when in Nagasaki. Some of you children bought the Castella too and do look out for them when they unpack.
